TMJ care after an accident or injury

Patients may experience new or worsening jaw symptoms following an accident or injury. Dr. Leon evaluates each patient's history, symptoms, clinical findings, and possible contributing factors to determine appropriate care.

Understanding what has changed

Dr. Leon sees patients after car, motorcycle, scooter, e-bike and other accidents, falls, sports injuries and martial arts injuries. Some come with symptoms they never experienced before, trying to understand what has changed. The evaluation looks at the whole picture: your health history, symptoms, jaw joints and muscles, teeth and bite, jaw movement, and posture.

  • Comprehensive TMJ evaluation

We start by looking at the whole picture: your health history, symptoms, jaw joints and muscles, teeth and bite, jaw movement, and posture. We also consider whether surrounding tissues or pain coming from another area may be involved. Treatment recommendations are based on your individual findings.

  • 3D imaging in our office

Tampa TMJ has an iCAT 3D (CBCT) scanner right in the office. When your evaluation calls for it, the scan gives a closer look at your jaw joints, teeth, nasal passages and airway, with no trip to another office.

  • In-office therapies

Laser therapy, photobiomodulation, TMJ manual therapy and myofascial release, hot and cold therapy, TENS and guided jaw exercises, chosen for what your evaluation finds and done right here in the office.
