Sleep apnea and airway care

If you come to Tampa TMJ for jaw pain, Dr. Leon wants to understand the full picture, including whether snoring, waking up gasping, or poor sleep is affecting you.

Sleep testing

When sleep testing is appropriate, the office can help arrange a home sleep study interpreted by a sleep physician. Dr. Leon works alongside your primary care doctor, ENT, cardiologist or sleep physician to coordinate your sleep and airway care.

Oral appliance therapy

For patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea who are good candidates for oral appliance therapy, Dr. Leon provides custom, adjustable appliances designed to help keep the airway open during sleep. She checks the appliance's fit and jaw comfort over time and coordinates with your medical or sleep provider to assess how well the treatment is working.

Care that fits you

Because each person's jaw and sleep needs are different, Dr. Leon helps you understand your options and choose care that fits your situation.

  • Custom oral appliances

TMJ night appliances, orthopedic repositioning appliances for day or night, and a retainer when you need one, all made for you from your exam and your goals. Dr. Leon checks the fit and adjusts them as your needs change.

  • 3D imaging in our office

Tampa TMJ has an iCAT 3D (CBCT) scanner right in the office. When your evaluation calls for it, the scan gives a closer look at your jaw joints, teeth, nasal passages and airway, with no trip to another office.

  • Comprehensive TMJ evaluation

We start by looking at the whole picture: your health history, symptoms, jaw joints and muscles, teeth and bite, jaw movement, and posture. We also consider whether surrounding tissues or pain coming from another area may be involved. Treatment recommendations are based on your individual findings.
